Bitpanda review 2026: fees, safety, stocks and crypto
Bitpanda review for EU investors: MiCA-licensed crypto with a 0.99% Bitcoin premium, real stocks and ETFs at €1 per trade, metals with no storage fee.
Bitpanda suits investors who want crypto, stocks, ETFs and precious metals in one EU-licensed app, especially in Germany, where it withholds tax on securities. Crypto carries a premium of 0.99% to 2.49% in the price, the currency cost on US shares isn't published, and we couldn't confirm real stocks for Dutch residents. Frequent crypto traders and pure ETF savers can pay less elsewhere.
Good fit if you
- Want crypto and ETFs in one app
- Live in Germany or Austria
- Want savings plans from €10
- Want gold without a storage fee
Look elsewhere if you
- Trade crypto often and want the lowest fees
- Want bonds or options
- Need real stocks confirmed in NL, BE or IE
- Want a Dutch tax report
Bitpanda is a Vienna-based investment platform for crypto-assets, stocks, ETFs and precious metals, licensed under MiCA in Austria, Germany and Malta. Our verdict: it is a simple way to hold crypto, ETFs and gold in one EU-regulated app, especially for German residents, but crypto costs a premium of 0.99% or more per trade and some details, such as the currency cost on US shares, aren’t published.
We checked Bitpanda’s fee pages, help centre and regulator records on 23 October 2026. This Bitpanda review is written for investors in the EU, especially the Netherlands and Germany.
Bitpanda review: the short verdict
Bitpanda is a good fit if you want crypto and traditional investments side by side, with small amounts and an EU licence for both. It is less suited to active crypto traders who want low fees, because the standard app charges a premium built into the price instead of exchange-style trading fees.
- Strongest point: crypto, crypto indices, real stocks, ETFs and metals in one Bitpanda account, with €1 stock trades and €0 savings plan orders.
- Main drawback: a crypto premium of 0.99% (Bitcoin) to 2.49% (small coins), and no published currency conversion fee for US stocks.
- Look elsewhere if: you trade crypto often, want bonds or options, or live in the Netherlands and want real stocks confirmed before you sign up.
What is Bitpanda?
Bitpanda is an Austrian company founded in 2014 by Eric Demuth, Paul Klanschek and Christian Trummer, and it reports over 8 million users. It works as a broker: you buy and sell at the displayed price in the app, with Bitpanda’s premium included, rather than placing orders against other users on an exchange.
Over the years Bitpanda has grown from a crypto platform into an all in one investing app for European users. Since 29 January 2026 it offers real stocks, ETFs and ETCs alongside crypto and metals. For active traders there is a separate order-book interface, Bitpanda Fusion.
Is Bitpanda safe? Licences, MiCA and protection
Bitpanda is licensed for EU residents: its crypto services hold MiCA authorisations in three EU countries, and its securities business is an FMA-licensed investment firm. Here are the Bitpanda companies that matter:
| Company | Regulator | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| Bitpanda GmbH | FMA (Austria) | MiCA crypto-asset service provider, since 9 April 2025 |
| Bitpanda Asset Management GmbH | BaFin (Germany) | MiCA, since January 2025 |
| BP23 CA Limited | MFSA (Malta) | MiCA, since January 2025 |
| Bitpanda Financial Services GmbH | FMA (Austria) | MiFID II investment firm, since February 2021 |
| Bitpanda Payments GmbH | FMA (Austria) | E-money institution |
| Bitpanda Broker UK Ltd | FCA (UK) | Registered, February 2025 |
Bitpanda GmbH’s MiCA authorisation is passported to all EEA states, including the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Ireland. In July 2025 the FMA extended the investment firm’s licence to include execution of client orders.
Track record
Bitpanda’s record has two points to know. It stopped serving Dutch residents on 1 February 2024 because it was not registered with DNB, and now lists the Netherlands as supported again under its MiCA licences. And in August 2026 the FMA published a €70,000 fine against Bitpanda GmbH for MiCA breaches concerning a crypto white paper and marketing; on 1 October 2026 a review of the publication was opened at Bitpanda’s request.
The fine is small and concerned a white paper and marketing rather than client assets, but it is a regulatory breach. That is why Bitpanda scores 8 out of 10 for protection rather than 9; see how we score.
What is protected, and what isn’t
Bitpanda’s client assets are protected differently by type:
- Stocks and ETFs: held in a custody account separate from Bitpanda’s own assets, with fractions on an omnibus basis. Austrian investor compensation covers up to €20,000 per investor for claims from covered securities services.
- Crypto and metals: not securities services, so investor compensation doesn’t apply. Crypto-assets can lose all their value.
- Euro balances: e-money issued by Bitpanda Payments GmbH and safeguarded apart from its own assets. E-money is not a bank deposit, so the €100,000 deposit guarantee doesn’t apply.
For your own account security, use a unique password and app-based two-factor authentication with an authenticator app.
Bitpanda fees and charges
Bitpanda charges a premium included in the crypto price, €1 per stock or ETF trade, €0 for savings plan orders and no custody or storage fee. Here is the Bitpanda fee structure:
| What | Bitpanda fee |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin and stablecoins | 0.99% premium in the price |
| Other crypto | 1.49% premium |
| Crypto under €100 million market cap | 2.49% premium |
| Crypto Index | 1.99% |
| Stocks, ETFs and ETCs | €1 per trade, plus spreads; financial transaction tax on French, Italian and Spanish shares |
| Stock and ETF savings plans | €0 order fee, from €10 per execution |
| Gold | 0.5% to buy, 1% to sell, no storage fee |
| Custody | None for stocks and ETFs |
| SEPA deposit and withdrawal | Free |
| PayPal deposit | 1.49% |
| Crypto withdrawals | Network fees |
| Interest on cash | None; optional Cash Plus money market funds (2.50% gross EUR yield, variable) |
Worked examples
€100 of Bitcoin: the 0.99% premium is about €0.99 of the final price. On €1,000 of Bitcoin it is €9.90; on €1,000 of a smaller coin with a 1.49% premium, €14.90. We couldn’t confirm from the pages we could access how much premium applies when you sell, so compare the buy price with the selling price in the app before you trade.
€100 a month into an ETF savings plan: the trade fee is €0, so a year of €1,200 costs nothing in order fees. You still pay the spread on each buy.
A €500 one-off ETF purchase: €1, or 0.20%, plus the spread. For US stocks, Bitpanda says currency costs may apply but doesn’t publish the rate, so the exact fee is unknown until you see the order preview.
€1,000 of gold, held for a year: €5 to buy (0.5%), no storage fee, and €10 to sell (1%) at the same price. Total: €15.
Deposits, payment options and withdrawal fees
You can fund your account by free SEPA bank transfer, credit card or debit card (Visa and Mastercard), Apple Pay, PayPal (1.49% fee) or EPS. The minimum fiat deposit is €10. Withdrawals go out by SEPA only and are free from Bitpanda; crypto withdrawals carry network fees. Reports of iDEAL and Bancontact deposits come from news sites, not from an official Bitpanda page we could find.
Bitpanda crypto, stocks, ETFs and metals
Bitpanda covers four asset classes in one app: crypto-assets and crypto indices, real stocks and ETFs, ETCs, and precious metals. It does not offer bonds or options.
Bitpanda stocks and ETFs
Real stocks, ETFs and ETCs launched on 29 January 2026 at €1 per trade, executed via the Quotrix system of Börse Düsseldorf. Fractional orders start at €2; fractions carry no voting rights and can’t be transferred to another broker. Securities trade Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 23:00, while crypto trades 24/7. Bitpanda’s older derivative-based stock products can now only be sold.
The catch for European investors outside Germany: Bitpanda’s onboarding pages for real stocks mention Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal and “rest of the world”. We could not confirm that real stocks and ETFs are open to residents of the Netherlands, Belgium or Ireland.
Precious metals
Bitpanda’s metals are tokens of 1 gram each, physically backed and stored by Brink’s in a duty-free vault in Switzerland. Gold costs 0.5% to buy and 1% to sell, with no storage fee. For small amounts that is cheaper to hold than BullionVault, whose gold storage has a $4 monthly minimum, but you hold 1-gram tokens backed by metal rather than allocated bullion. If you want allocated gold, see our BullionVault review and our gold overview.
Bitpanda Fusion, leverage and margin trading
Bitpanda Fusion is a separate order-book trading interface for advanced traders, with volume-based fees that fall to 0.02%. We couldn’t verify its starting fee tier.
Bitpanda Leverage, a crypto CFD product, is labelled a legacy product, with a 1% closing fee and a 0.1% daily overnight fee. Crypto margin trading charges 0.18% per day in funding and a 0.3% closing fee.
Taxes in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium
Bitpanda’s tax handling is strongest in Germany: it withholds tax on securities for German residents, while Dutch and Belgian users get statements to file themselves.
- Germany: Bitpanda withholds 25% capital gains tax plus 5.5% solidarity surcharge and church tax on stock and ETF sales, swaps and dividends, using FIFO. A provisional 29% may be deducted if the calculation is delayed.
- Netherlands: no Dutch tax report. You download statements and transaction history and report your crypto, stocks and metals in box 3 yourself.
- Belgium: Bitpanda’s financial transaction tax handling covers only French, Italian and Spanish shares; it doesn’t mention the Belgian stock exchange tax (TOB).
- Austria: built-in tax reports are only available for Austrian users.
Bitpanda account, app and customer support
Opening a Bitpanda account starts with account creation in the app or on the website, followed by an identity check (KYC) before you can deposit. The minimum fiat deposit is €10, and trades start at €1 for crypto and €2 for stocks and ETFs.
Bitpanda support runs through a 24/7 in-app live chat, starting with a virtual assistant that hands over to staff, plus bookable calls in some languages. The help centre is available in 12 languages, including Dutch and German. With crypto, stocks and metals in one app, Bitpanda is user friendly for new users who want everything in one place.
Who Bitpanda suits, and who should look elsewhere
Bitpanda suits European investors who want a regulated crypto platform and traditional investments in one app, and who value convenience over the lowest possible fee.
Bitpanda is a good fit if you:
- want crypto, ETFs and gold in one place, from €10;
- live in Germany and want tax withheld on stocks and ETFs;
- prefer an EU company with MiCA licences;
- invest monthly with savings plans.
Look elsewhere if you:
- trade crypto often, where 0.99% or more per trade adds up;
- want bonds, options or confirmed currency costs on US shares;
- live in the Netherlands, Belgium or Ireland and want real stocks confirmed;
- want allocated physical gold in your own name.
Bitpanda compared with alternatives
Bitpanda’s closest rivals each win on one point, so compare by goal:
- eToro: stocks, ETFs and MiCA-licensed crypto in one app with copy trading, but 1% per crypto buy and sell, $1 per stock trade in NL, DE and BE, and 0.75% to convert euros into dollars.
- Trade Republic: €1 per crypto or stock order plus spread, €0 savings plans, interest on cash and German tax withholding, from a German bank.
- Interactive Brokers: crypto at 0.12% to 0.18% of trade value plus stocks, bonds and options, for investors comfortable with a complex platform.
If ETFs are your main goal, our list of the best ETF brokers compares the cheapest options for monthly plans.
The bottom line
Bitpanda is a well-licensed, multi-asset app for European investors who want crypto, stocks, ETFs and metals in one place, with €1 stock trades, €0 savings plan orders and German tax withholding. The trade-offs are a crypto premium of 0.99% to 2.49% in the price, an unpublished currency cost on US shares, cash held as e-money rather than a bank deposit, and a €70,000 MiCA fine in 2026. Turn here if convenience across asset classes matters most; look elsewhere if you trade crypto often or only want ETFs.
